Solana calls for deadline mechanism for withdrawal from Lebanon

Brussels, 07/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Sunday, CFSP High Representative Javier Solana noted with interest the announcement by Syrian president Bachar al-Assad on his intention to redeploy Syrian forces in the Lebanon to Bekaa, near the Syrian border. In a press release, Mr Solana pointed out that the EU expected, “integral application of Resolution 1559”, which involved the “full withdrawal of foreign military and intelligence forces from the Lebanon”.
