Commission feels Croatia does not yet merit launch of accession negotiations - Suggested technical framework for future negotiations

Brussels, 31/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - Enlargement Commissioner, Olli Rehn, issued a grave warning to the government of Croatia on Monday that the launch of accession negotiations with Croatia (scheduled for 17 March 2005) would have to be postponed if the fugitive Croat general, Ante Gotovina, is not arrested and handed over to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague.
