The Association Internationale des Sociétés d'Assurance Mutuelle (AISAM) has published a ranking of the largest insurers of the European Union in 2003. According to the figures they collected, of the 80 largest insurers in Europe: -25% are mutual insurers; -9% are controlled by holdings, themselves owned by mutuals; -14% are within the realm of the social economy.
