Development Committee supports request by Zimbabwe's opposition leader - EU to keep pressure on Mugabe for organising free and democratic elections

Brussels, 01/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - Morgan Tsvangira, leader of the movement for a democratic change (MDC) in Zimbabwe, alerted the European Parliament's development committee on Monday to the fact that parliamentary elections in Zimbabwe, scheduled for March 2005, will be neither free nor democratic. He therefore calls on the EU to do everything in its power to promote the democratic holding of elections and to maintain firm political sanctions against Harare. The message was received by...
