01/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - At the initial discussion of the draft text to mark the opening of accession negotiations with Turkey in Coreper (Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Member States to the EU) in Wednesday, everybody made known and confirmed his or her opinion, indicated diplomatic sources after the meeting. The delegations put forward their comments without discussing actual negotiations or the wording of the text proposed to them on Monday by the Presidency, with a view to the European Council of 17 December (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.5). In particular, the ambassadors discussed two highly sensitive issues: the possibility of referring to another conclusion of negotiations than Turkish accession to the EU, and the recognition of the Republic of Cyprus by Turkey.
