Investigation into parafiscal tax to promote wine in Portugal

Brussels, 01/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission decided to open an investigation into various activities of the Institute of Vine and Wine (IVV) in Portugal. The Commission has its doubts about the compatibility of a parafiscal tax brought in in 1995 by IVV for the promotion of wine with Community rules on State aid.
