Conference in Sharm el-Sheik, Javier Solana urges for regional security mechanism

Brussels, 23/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative for CFSP Javier Solana issued a statement on Tuesday at the International Ministerial Conference on Iraq in Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt), saying that, in Europe's opinion, "Iraq is not only a strategic issue for the EU. It is much more than that. Iraq is in our neighbourhood. Indeed, Iraq will be a direct neighbour once Turkey joins the EU.
