Brussels, 10/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - Member States of the European Union had to succeed in their integration policies in order to fight against the radicalisation of society, declared the Dutch minister for immigration, Rita Verdonk, speaking in Gronigen on Tuesday at the ministerial conference on integration, which is continuing on Thursday. In many countries, young Muslims do not feel integrated into society, which increases the risk of being attracted to radical groups, added the minister. She insisted that problems would increase if nothing was done and she called for changes to best practices and a common integration approach. Jonathan Faul, Director general for justice and home affairs at the European Commission declared that it was possible to bring some European responses to bear but explained that these problems could not be resolved from Brussels. The European Commission presented its "European Manual for Integration", which was adopted on Wednesday. This looks at examples on integration, language courses, civic participation and inter-religious dialogue. This 84 page manual can be consulted at: (http: //europa.eu.int/comm/justice_home/).
