France found guilty of inappropriate fight against pollution of "étang de Berre" - Athens protocol on protection of Mediterranean

Luxembourg, 19/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Court of Justice has found France guilty of not having taken all appropriate measures to prevent, reduce and combat the massive and lingering pollution of the "étang de Berre" (a brackish lake). The second Chamber of the Court presided by Dutch Judge Christiaan Timmermans points to the fact that France did not keep to the provisions of the protocol on the protection of the Mediterranean Sea against pollution of telluric origin.
