Brussels, 19/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Prodi Commission will be examining a last series of State aid schemes on Wednesday, as no decision of this kind is expected next week. The key dossiers to be looked at by the College include endorsement of the compromise reached by German State authorities and German private banks on the subject of the Landesbanken (EUROPE of 22 September), but its decision will not concern the restructuring of possible recapitalisation of the seven banks concerned. The Commission is also expected to confirm the reimbursement of a State aid package to the Spanish shipyards IZAR (probably amounting to EUR 550 million), whose division into two separate companies, for civil and military activities, is to take place by the end of this year. It is then expected to call on the German government to repeal legislative provisions that are likely to entail abuse of dominant position by Deutsche Post in the postal services sector. Finally, in the competition field, the Commission will examine the case of two cartels concerning tobacco growers and, above all, the tobacco processing industrialists in Spain. Other decisions are also on the agenda.
