Brussels, 19/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Community eco-label week, with the symbol of a small flower surrounded by the stars of the European flag, opened on Monday in eight Member States of the EU (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland- plus Norway. Its objective is to promote awareness of this label, which certifies that the environmental performances of the products which bear it satisfy strict ecological criteria laid down in European law. The "European flower" week gets all the concerned parties involved in organising events in schools, shops, on the radio and television, with the financial backing of the Commission and the British and Irish environment ministries. Currently there are 21 categories of products which are entitled to bear the label. The criteria for eligibility for campsites and lubricants will be available shortly.
