30/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - On the International Day of Older Persons on 1 October, the European Federation of Retired and Older People (FERPA) launched an appeal to the presidents of the European institutions as well as to Heads of State and governments to, "work to improve the daily lives of Europe's older people". On behalf of the 80 million pensioners and old people in Europe FERPA highlighted in hits declaration that, "ON behalf of Europe's 80 million pensioners and older people, we call on the politicians to live up to the principles adopted by the United Nations in 1991 to ensure that all older people enjoy independence, quality care, real participation in the life of society, opportunities to develop their full potential, and live in dignity and security".
