Brussels, 23/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - On 20 September, the European Commission adopted a regulation setting a 2004 quota of 25,795 tonnes for caplin catches by Community vessels in Greenland's waters. This regulation is published in the Official Journal L296 of 21 September 2004. Community fishing opportunities for this area had been set provisionally in the regulation of 19 December 2003 on total allowable catches (TACs) and quotas for 2004. In a letter of 9 July 2004, the Greenland authorities informed the Commission's services that the TAC for caplin had been set at 335,000 tonnes for 2004. In line with provisions of the fourth protocol to the fishing agreement signed between the EU and Greenland, the caplin quota for the EU should be 7.7% of the total, or 25,795 tonnes for this year.
