20/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - On 14 September, the European Commission submitted to the Council a draft regulation recommending extension of the anti-dumping duty applied to imports of synthetic fibre rope from India. In June 1998, the Council established a 53% anti-dumping levy on imports of synthetic fibre rope from the only manufacturer and exporter of such products in India which had cooperated with the EU (Garware Wall Ropes Ltd.), and a residual 82% levy on imports of the same product from other companies in India. Towards the expiry date of the said measures, the Commission received a request to launch further investigations by Eurocord, on behalf of EU rope manufacturers. The investigations confirmed dumping practices to the detriment of EU industry, and the Commission therefore recommends keeping the current anti-dumping measures in place.
