Europeans wish to help reconstruction in Iraq but consider security is insufficient for presence on ground

Valkenburg, 06/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - - The debate held by European Union Foreign Ministers at the St Gerlach Castle in the south-east Netherlands allowed confirmation of Europeans' commitment to help Iraq recover stability. Ministers spoke of support to be provided to the UN, including for ensuring security on the ground, but also help to train the police force and customs services as well as assistance to the electoral process and the setting in place of legal institutions.
