EU to appeal WTO decision against EU sugar subsidies, says Mr Fischler

Noordwijk, 06/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - At the sidelines of the informal meeting of the Agriculture Council in Noordwijk aan Zee in the Netherlands on Sunday, Commissioner Franz Fischler confirmed that the verdict awaited from the WTO panel on sugar could come down against EU subsidies. He also said that it was very likely that the EU would appeal the WTO verdict. The WTO dispute settlement body was set up further to a complaint made in July 2003 by Brazil, Australia and Thailand.
