Javier Solana denies that he wants Commission Presidency - Chirac: "Verhofstadt would make a good President"

Brussels, 03/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - Cristina Gallach, spokesperson to the High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, formally refuted claims on Thursday that Mr Solana may apply for the Presidency of the next European Commission. Thursday's Financial Times said that the British government could consider the High Representative as an "alternative candidate" to Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt to take over from Romano Prodi.
