Commission proposes to negotiate new regime at WTO on banana imports, based solely on tariffs and keeping ACP preferences

Brussels, 02/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the Commission proposed to the Council to open negotiations at the WTO, with a view to replacing the current (quota-based) import regime for bananas with an exclusively tariff-based regime no later than 1 January 2006 (EUROPE of 29 May, p.14).
