Continued bathing water quality improvements but some Member States tend to ban bathing rather than removing the source of problem

Brussels, 01/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - Bathing water quality improvement trends in the European Union have been confirmed as in recent years but fresh water (lakes and rivers) is not as good as coastal waters. The European Commission's annual report has just been published on the basis of data communicated by former Member States for on the quality of Europe's bathing water last season and is encouraging but far from perfect.
