Conference on rural development policy after 2006

Florence, 29/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Conference of the Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) and the region of Tuscany are organising, on Friday in Florence, a seminar on the Community rural development policy as of 2007. Representatives of the regions of the enlarged Europe will discuss priorities to be borne in mind before adoption (end May or early June) of the European Commission's legislative proposals on the future of the "second pillar" of the Common Agricultural Policy. The Commission will be represented above all by the Deputy Director General for Agriculture, Dirk Ahner. Participants will mainly discuss the Commission's communication on the financial perspectives 2007-2013 and the third report on economic and social cohesion, and will return to the results of the conference on the same theme held in November 2003 in Salzburg at the initiative of Commissioner Franz Fischler (EUROPE of 15 November). The main elements known to date on rural development policy as of 2007 are: - the creation of a single fund to simplify and modernise the current instruments; - and the indicative amount of the budgetary allocation, estimated at EUR 88 billion in seven years (EUROPE of 17 February).
