Brussels, 29/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission recently proposed the setting up of a new instrument for assessing the skills and qualifications in the enlarged Europe: Europass. This proposal integrates five existing documents and focuses on the European curriculum vitae, the European portfolio of languages, Mobilpass (training experience), the supplement to the certificate (vocational qualifications) and the supplement to the higher education diploma (EUROPE 7-8 January). By adopting, last week in Strasbourg, the report of German Christian Democrat Sabine Zissener on this Commission proposal, Parliament considers that: third country citizens residing in the EU should also be able to benefit from "transparency" initiatives" which do not go as far as formal recognition; that social partners at a European level should be able to play a particular role in sectoral transparency initiatives, which could be introduced in the framework of Europass;; activities for promoting suitable information for citizens, training providers, trainers and social partners, including SMEs, are carried out at European and national level to support and integrate action from the national Europass agencies.
