Brussels, 23/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is preparing a legislative proposal on maintenance allowances. It plans to propose accelerated implementation of a judgement on paying an allowance ruled in another Member State by doing away with the "exequatur", i.e. passing by a judge in the second country. It would also like to strengthen cooperation between Member States mainly to help the beneficiary of an allowance to find the person who must pay to ensure obligations are fulfilled. It has published a Green Paper (http: //http://www.europa.eu.int/comm/justice_home ) which ends with a long list of questions which the Commission invites interested parties to answer before the hearing that it is to organise on this theme on 2 June. Next week, the Conference in The Hague will be on the same theme at international level.
