Brussels, 13/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission gave its final approval on Wednesday for the funding projects under the MEDA programme in Morocco, Egypt and Jordan to the tune of 140.79 euros. Development co-operation for Morocco (71.79 million euros) will focus on balanced and sustainable economic development in the north of the country and reducing environmental damage. 7 million euros will provide Oudja with waste water disposal facilities, improving the quality of water resources in the area and helping to prevent flooding and urban pollution. 4.7 million goes to another environmental protection project to minimise the environmental impact of seven major water treatment plants in the northern and central areas of Morocco. 64 million euros is allocated to Egypt to protect the environment and traditional way of life of the Bedouin communities, whilst strengthening the socio-economic balance. The Commission will also finance a regional development programme in South Sinai to upgrade the quality of the environment and improving living conditions. 5 million euros will finance Jordan's A1 Meyah programme to support management of the country's water resources.
