Brussels, 01/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - On 30 March the European Commission decided to send reasoned opinions to Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Austria, Finland and Sweden for non-communication of national transportation measures of directive 2002/30/EC on establishing rules on restrictions on noise-pollution linked to airports in the EU. A warning letter was sent to these countries on 25 November. Although most of the countries affected have sent observations indicting that the competent authorities were currently preparing measures to comply with the directive, the Commission has not yet received proof that the measures have been adopted. It underlines in a press statement that the "implementation of this directive is particularly important to guarantee the sustainable development of air transport activities in respect of noise levels of local people".
