16/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - CSU MEP Joachim Wuermeling has made a scathing attack on the European Commission's proposal on financial perspectives for 2007-13. He criticised the "gigantic" amounts proposed but also the Commissioners who for their political motives. Wuermeling stated that the Commission document resembled a "planned economy", which he found abhorrent. He stressed that Europe now wanted to build roads, fund education, subsidise ecological industry but "is it really up to Mr Prodi whether roads should be built in eastern Poland? Shouldn't such responsibility be up to Member States themselves?".
