Marseilles meeting for FEMIC experts

Brussels, 16/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Experts Committee for the "Facilité euro-Méditerranéenne d'investissement de partenariat"(FEMIP) meeting on 16 February in Marseilles will be expected to elaborate the practical proposals for presentation to the FEMIP ministerial council next June in Alexandria. The experts committee brings together 60 representatives from the finance and economics ministries of countries involved in the Barcelona process, including the ten new EU accession countries.

The ministerial Euromed conference in Naples last November decided that six monthly meetings would take place at an experts' level to ensure practical project follow up, as well as helping the economic liberalisation and modernisation process in countries on the south bank of the Mediterranean.

Experts are expected to examine the role of companies in the public sector and in services. On 17 Febraury they will look at "access to finance for private enterprises". Participants will include senior managers in public bodies, banks and industrial companies as well as enterprise services from the European Commission.
