Brussels / Geneva, 16/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday in Geneva, the Union is to submit a formal complaint against the laws, procedure and methodology used by the United States to determine the level of dumping by foreign competition. Its request for a panel on this must be examined the same day by the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body. The request will, however, no doubt be withdrawn a second time next month in order to be able to go beyond the foreseeable US opposition. The request will then be automatically endorsed by the Dispute Settlement Body.
This will no doubt be the case, on Tuesday, for the Korean request for a panel to be set up to examine the legality of specific and targeted support that the Union grants its shipbuilding sector in the context of the sector-specific dispute that has been raging between the Commission and South Korea for many years.
