Brussels, 04/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission calls on seven member States (Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece and United Kingdom) to pay back EUR 143.18 million of inappropriate agricultural spending. France is to repay EUR 91.12 million due to insufficient controls on animal premiums (suckler cow, bullocks or bulls, slaughter and extensive farming). The other main corrections are: - 20 million for Italy (non compliance with the legislation on public storage of cereals, alcohol and cheese); 11.22 million for Spain (irregularities in aid for tomato processing firms and aid schemes for citrus fruits); 9.32 million for Belgium (deficient secondary inspections in the arable crop sector); and 7.5 million for Germany (insufficient controls in the arable crop sector).
