Brussels, 04/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament and the Council will be meeting on 18 February to continue their negotiations on the second railway package and try to lay out the ground work for the second conciliation committee meeting planned for 16 March. Beforehand , the parliamentary delegation of the conciliation committee will be meeting during Parliament's plenary session on 9-12 February in Strasbourg, whereas the Committee of Permanent Representatives (Coreper) will be preparing the trialogue. The first conciliation committee meeting, which took place on 27 January did not see any progress in this case. The stumbling block is still the issue of competition in rail passenger transport (EUROPE 29 January p 13).
