04/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - European elected members of the European United Left, Fausto Bertinotti and Luigi Vinci, last week presented to the European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg a proposal of resolution on the Parmalat scandal. In their proposal they above all call on the Commission to put forward proposals on tighter controls on hedge funds and derivatives financial instruments and to bring forward a communication on their international use and consequences for the "real" economy. Both Italian parliamentarians, though welcoming the Commission's proposals aimed at strengthening audit controls after this affair, state that the action plan on financial services has contributed more to the deregulation and liberalisation of capital and financial services markets with lack of proper prudential rules and control mechanisms.
