Brussels, 19/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission and Egypt is organising on 20 and 21 January, in Cairo, their first meeting of economic dialogue, a new framework for general discussion on economic guidelines of the partner country. The meeting, to be held at the level of officials and experts, will make it possible to analyse the major macroeconomic developments in Egypt and the impact of European economic policies on this country, mainly the euro. It will of course be a matter of implementing the association agreement and that, initially, of the interim agreement - signed in the form of an exchange of letters - which anticipates the entry into force of the trade provisions of the association agreement. Egypt should also present the elements of its trade liberalisation strategy and reform of its structures. It is also pointed out that officials and experts will study the impact of EU enlargement on Egypt and on the Mediterranean partners in general.
