08/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the Council of the EU adopted conclusions on Rwanda, reaffirming the European Union's commitment to encouraging, stimulating and supporting the process of (1) consolidating democracy and promoting human rights; (2) rebuilding after the period of genocide and promoting national reconciliation; and (3) rebuilding, development and reducing poverty. It also highlighted the importance of demobilisation and reintegrating former combatants in the interests of peace and stability throughout the Great Lakes region.
