24/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has welcomed President Chevardnadze's decision to step down, and says that the most important thing now is to go towards democratic elections which conform to international standards. MEP Marie Anne Isler Béguin (Greens, France) wrote to ask President Cox to offer aid to the new Georgian officials, ahead of the forthcoming presidential and legislative elections.
