Grant Aldonas hopes FSC problems will be settled by March 2004, denies a compromise has been reached over steel and underplays importance of 15 December WTO Summit

Brussels, 24/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - The United States hopes to dismantle its tax aid scheme for companies exporting overseas (FSC/ETI) by March 2004. The system in question has been ruled illegal but a short transition period will no doubt be necessary, explained US Vice-Trade Secretary Grant Aldonas, visiting Brussels on Monday. Whether you agree with the rules or not, you have to respect them at the end of the day, he commented, pointing out that Europe had its work cut out for it too...
