HCR gives severe warning against draft directive on asylum procedures, to be on agenda of Thursday's Council

Brussels, 24/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - The UN High Commissioner for Refugees calls on the Fifteen to substantially amend their draft directive on procedures for reviewing asylum requests or to withdraw it. In a letter addressed to Silvio Berlusconi on Monday, Ruud Lubbers uses severe language to point out that he fears this directive will be "nothing more than a list of options, including significant departure from the international laws and principles relating to refugees and human rights...
