ExxonMobil and Shell may share activities of their subsidiary BEB

Brussels, 24/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised the groups ExxonMobil and Royal Dutch/Shell to share the gas marketing business currently operated by their joint undertaking, BEB Erdgas und Erdöl GmbH, that they hold equally. ExxonMobil and Royal Dutch/Shell will then delegate these activities to their respective subsidiaries, ExxonMobil Gas Marketing Deutschland and Shell Erdgasbeteiligungsgesellschaft. After this move, both groups will compete for gas customers independently in Germany. The Commission considers the transaction will not affect competition. It has above all examined the impact that it would have on the markets for exploration, production and development as well as transport and storage of natural gas, and remarked that it would not affect the current situation.
