27/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - Last week, the Ambassador Maurizio Melani, President of the WEU Permanent Council and also of the EU Political and Security Committee (COPS) informed the Committee of Presidents and several committees from the Western European Union Assembly - European interparliamentary assembly on security and defence (Presided over by Marcel Glesener) - of the latest development in the IGC. Lluis Maria de Puig questioned in particular the Council President over the European strategy project from the High Representative Javier Solana, and David Hatkinson asked whether this project would include the establishment of an anti-missile defence system (this question has not yet been broached by the European Union, answered Ambassador Melani). As for President Glesener, he described the WEU Assembly proposal on the establishment of an interparliamentary forum for European security and defence (see EUROPE of 25 October, p. 7).
