Brussels, 08/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Commission could decide on 15 October to extend the formal inquiry procedure on French aid to Alstom. As Competition Commission Mario Monti indicated at a press conference on 1 October, this extension concerns "the elements which differ between the initial plan, which the European Commission refused, and the new plan". It will allow a study into whether the loan of 900 million EUR, a measure mentioned by France in talks with the European Commission on 22 September and notified formally on 26 September, is in line with Community rules on rescue aid and restructuring of companies in difficulties.
