Brussels, 08/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - Javier Solana, High Representative of the European Union for Common Foreign and Security Policy, spoke out against the recent massacres of innocent people discovered by MONUC, the Mission of the United Nations to the Congo (RDC), in Katshelli, in the province of Ituri.
Mr Solana made the following declaration (our translation): "this discovery highlights the need for MONUC's presence throughout the province. The European Union cannot allow such crimes to go unpunished. The transition to the Democratic Republic of Congo offers an unprecedented opportunity to the Congolese people to leave five years of war behind. They must all seize this opportunity; neighbouring countries must support the process underway".
