Brussels, 08/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - A group of artists, producers and music distributors presented the European Parliament with a petition signed by over 140,000 consumers asking for VAT on recorded music to be reduced. The European Commission had refused to include records on the list of products and services to enjoy a reduced rate of VAT, which was presented in July. According to Commissioner Frits Bolkestein, the music industry's problems stem from pirating, not from VAT.
