Broad support for appointment of Jean-Claude Trichet as President of European Central Bank

Strasbourg, 23/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday morning, Jean-Claude Trichet received wide support from the European Parliament for his appointment as Head of the European Central Bank (315 votes for, 83 against and 75 abstentions). During the debate, all political groups, except for the EDD, spoke in favour with varying degrees of enthusiasm.
