EP hopes attacks in Bombay will not undermine rapprochement between India and Pakistan

Strasbourg, 05/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption on Thursday in Strasbourg of a common resolution by five political groups (EPP-ED, PES, ELDR, GUE-NGL, UEN), the European Parliament firmly condemns the bomb attacks on 25 August which killed and wounded a large number of civilians from both communities (Hindu and Muslim) near the Gateway of India and the Zaveri bazaar in Bombay. It hopes that the effort being made to bring India and Pakistan closer together will continue and that it will not be compromised by these attacks. It also calls on the municipality of Bombay to do everything it can to avoid clashes between religious communities.
