05/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - Lars Heikensten, Governor of the Riksbank, the Swedish Central Bank, called on Thursday for a "yes" vote to the referendum on single currency. "As I see things, Sweden's influence has considerably declined. At the same time, the importance of the European Union as such has increased", he explained in a personal opinion published at the bank. He said: "if we say no to accession, perhaps not for always but at least for the immediate future, the situation will continue to grow worse". The referendum is to be held on 14 September. Also, according to latest polls, the "yes" are now only 6 points behind the "no".
