Brussels, 05/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - On 16 September in Brussels the European Commission is organising a conference on the different ways of security pertaining to the different ways of electronic payment and credit cards, the conference is officially billed as "Payments and Trust". Are electronic payments safe? Do they employ the best use of available technology? Do European citizens trust them? What are the expectations? What is the role for the public authorities? All questions will attempt to answer the many participants such as David Byrne (Commissioner of Consumer Protection), Frits Bolkestein (Commissioner for the Internal Market), Gerhard Schmid (Vice President of the European Parliament), Gertrude Tumpel-Gugerrel (Member of the European Central Bank's Board of Governors), Gerhard Hartsink (President of the European Payment Council, Hans van der Velde (President of Visa International EU).
