Brussels, 21/08/2003 (Agence Europe) - German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder will be in Verona, in northern Italy, on Friday and Saturday to meet the President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi, and the European Council President, Silvio Berlusconi. No formal meeting is scheduled between the three men, states a Commission spokesperson, who notes that, at an invitation from President Prodi, the German Chancellor will attend a representation of the opera Carmen on Friday evening. He added that Messrs Berlusconi and Schröder are expected to meet for a face to face talk on Saturday. According to AFP, Messrs Berlusconi and Schröder will be at a working lunch on Saturday morning during which they are expected to discuss the future European Constitution and Community issues. The Italian Prime Minister is also to attend a dinner on Saturday evening, in Sardinia, with German Minister for the Interior Otto Schilly, who will have discussed beforehand with his Italian counterpart on illegal immigration, terrorism and organised crime, AFP reports.
