Brussels, 23/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - In its adoption, last Thursday in Brussels, of the report by Malcolm Harbour (Conservative, UK) and Manuel Medina Ortega (Socialist, Spain) on the reform of EU staff regulations, the European Parliament calls upon the Council of the EU to consult it again, as Council intends substantially to modify the Commission's proposal, notably in regard to the pension regime (see EUROPE of 21 May 2003, p.14, on the Council's political agreement). At the end of March, the EP had decided to postpone the adoption of this report and to accept the amendments so that the Commission would accept its proposals, and to retain flexibility on the dossier's evolution in Council (see EUROPE of 1 April 2003, p.17). The MEPs call upon the Commission to present a revised proposal (as per the procedure following Council's political agreement), taking account of its requests (give official staff status to assistants, create a special category for linguists…).
