Brussels, 13/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - The weekly Commission meeting, next Wednesday, will be dominated by issues relating to environmental and consumer policies. The College is expected to approve the communication by Margot Wallström on the integrated products policy (IPP) which had been postponed till the end of May (see EUROPE 24 may p 11). This communication focuses on the promotion of systematic improvements of environmental performances of products throughout their cycles, as well as encouraging the supply of ecological products. The Commissioner responsible for the environment is also expected to present her colleagues with a note on the state of play regarding the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol, a note that will also highlight the attitude of Russia, whose ratification would allow for the implementation of provisions from the text. With regard to proposal by the Commissioner on health and consumer protection, David Byrne, the Commission is expected to adopt a draft directive on certain unfair trade practices vis-à-vis consumers in the context of advertising, marketing and after sales services.
