Strasbourg, 10/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - Last week the European Parliament adopted the report of French Green, Yves Piétransanta on the annual MEDA programme report for 2002, which guarantees financial assistance to countries in the Mediterranean. In its resolution, Parliament: requests the setting up of a specific visa for business men and women, academics, researchers, students, journalists and social actors participating in the Euro-Mediterranean partnership; see the implementation of social aid programmes for the disabled and the setting up of regional cooperation lines for child protection; request to be informed regularly on the composition of the MEDA 2 management committee, as well as on the dates and agendas for meetings; requests that officials in charge of EU external aid regularly follow human rights training courses, expects the European Commission to more clearly define actions that should receive priority financial aid and is of the opinion that it is necessary to prioritise investment for job creation and sustainable development; requests the Commission to actively support organisations, associations and independent unions in these countries; regrets that the identification process of projects and programming between Israel and Palestine have been suspended; regrets that the financial factor for regional cooperation is insufficient and calls on the Commission to propose regional aid programmes in the framework of vocation re-training; suggests the use of the 6th framework programme for research into the environment and agriculture to protect food sovereignty and water management in the regions; request hat the Commission defines differentiated projects in the different countries.
