Brussels, 10/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - Amelia Torres, spokesperson for Commissioner Monti, pointed out last Friday that the investigation into the Microsoft dossier was continuing. She did not, however, give any details on the substance of the inquiry, but did say that they were getting to the heart of the dossier. She recalled the remarks made in April by Philip Lowe, Director General of DG Competition, who said there were still some issues outstanding and that the inquiry was not yet over. Furthermore, the spokesperson did not undertake to give a date for closing the investigation, although at the beginning of the year there had been mention of the end of the summer break as a possible moment for reaching a decision. This timing, it seems however, will not be kept. Ms Torres said the earlier provisions did not come from their own initiative but rather from media pressure. She stressed that they would, therefore, no longer make any forecasts of this kind or give substantive details. She also refused to make any comment on a document containing 61 questions that the Commission sent to film and music companies in order to see what technology they use for diffusing content on the Internet. The aim is to collect information concerning the use of the multimedia reading software, Media Player, which, as an integral part of Windows, would push all rival software from the market.
