Commission proposal on cooperation with third countries

Brussels, 10/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - The College of European Commissioners is to adopt, on Wednesday, a proposal for a multiannual programme intended to finance cooperation with third countries for managing immigration and for combating illegal immigration. The Commission is to propose that the programme should focus as a priority on re-entry of foreigners intercepted in an unlawful situation in the EU, whether they originate from the third country concerned or have transited through the territory of that country. The programme had been announced last December by Commissioners Patten (external relations) and Vitorino (justice and immigration) in their communication on the integration of migration issues into relations between the European Union and third countries (EUROPE of 3 and 4 December 2002).
